Property photography and drone filming

Our property photography service covers on-site photography, retouching and drone filming, so your brochure, website and launch film all start with images shot for the job.

Planning a property photography shoot

Exterior, interior and location photography for brochures, websites and agents’ listings, with retouching and colour correction handled in our studio.

Good property photography starts before anyone picks up a camera. We agree a shot list with you based on how the images will be used, then plan the shoot around light, weather and access. A typical commercial shoot covers:

  • Exteriors – the building from its best angles, timed for the right light, plus dusk shots where lighting is a selling point
  • Interiors – reception, typical floors, amenity spaces and views from the windows
  • Location – the street, nearby cafés, shops, parks and transport links that occupiers will use every day

Drone video and aerial photography

Aerial footage shows what ground-level photography can’t: the site in context, its transport links and its surroundings. We film drone video for developments, commercial property and events, and edit it for websites, social media and presentations.

Drone filming regulations
Flying a drone for commercial work in the UK is regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority, and city-centre sites often sit close to airports, crowds or restricted airspace. Each flight is planned around the CAA’s drone rules, with permissions from landowners and site managers arranged in advance.

Launch films and video
Alongside aerial footage we shoot and edit short films for launches, websites and social media, combining drone shots, interiors, location footage, CGIs and motion graphics into a single piece that tells the story of the building.

From site to completion
For larger schemes, regular photography and drone flights build a record of progress from groundworks to handover. The footage is useful for investor updates and social media during construction, and for a before-and-after film once the building is complete.

Retouching and image preparation
Every image is edited in our studio: verticals corrected, colour balanced and distractions such as parked cars or construction debris removed where appropriate. We prepare files at the right size and format for print, web and social media.

Shot with the layout in mind

The same studio that takes the photographs designs the brochure and the website, so our property photography covers the angles and crops the layouts actually need.

That means fewer reshoots, images that sit properly on the page, and one team to talk to from the shot list to the finished document.

Frequently asked questions

Can’t see your question here? Call us on 0131 202 7682 or email hello@designwork.co.uk.

We’re based in Leith, Edinburgh, and work across Scotland.

Yes. We edit aerial and ground footage into versions sized for websites, social media and presentations.

Access to the building and a site contact on the day, keys or passes for any areas we need to photograph, and a note of anything that should or shouldn’t appear in shot. For interiors, it helps if spaces are cleared, dressed and lit as you would want occupiers to see them.

We keep an eye on the forecast in the days before a shoot. If conditions aren’t right for exteriors or drone work we’ll suggest moving that part of the shoot, while interiors can usually go ahead as planned.
