Branding for property developments

A building needs a name and an identity before it can be marketed. Our branding for property developments creates names, logos and identities that work across hoardings, brochures, websites and the marketing suite.

What branding for property developments includes

We start by understanding the site, its location and who it needs to attract. From there we develop the name, logo, colour palette, typography and photographic style, and pull it together in brand guidelines that everyone marketing the scheme can use, from the letting agents to the developer’s own team.

  • Naming and straplines
  • Logo and visual identity
  • Brand guidelines
  • Hoarding and site signage designs
  • Brochure, website and social media templates
  • Launch and event graphics

Choosing a name for a property development

A development name has to work hard. It needs to say something about the place, sound right when an agent says it on the phone, and still feel credible years after completion. We usually explore several routes, drawing on the site’s history, its street, its architecture or the character of the neighbourhood, before narrowing down to a shortlist.

Before a name is settled we run four practical checks.

Web address
Is the matching web address available?

Local clashes
Is it already used by another scheme or business nearby?

Registered marks
Does it clash with an existing registered mark? A quick search of the UK trade mark register is a sensible first step.

Legibility
Does it read clearly on a hoarding, a sign and a small social media tile?

Designing an identity that lasts the whole campaign

A property brand lives through several stages: planning and construction, launch, letting or sales, and finally occupation. Good branding for property developments has to work across all of them, on site hoardings, brochures, websites, marketing suites and reception signage. We design flexible systems rather than a single logo, with a palette, typography and graphic devices that can be applied consistently by everyone involved.

Because we also design and print brochures and signage and exhibition material, and build websites, the brand is applied the same way everywhere from day one. That joined-up approach is what makes our branding for property developments work in practice, not just in the guidelines.

Rebranding an existing building

Refurbished buildings often need a fresh identity to signal that they have changed. We look at what the building already has going for it, from its address and architecture to its history, and build a brand that helps agents reposition it in the market.

Branding projects

We create identities beyond property too, for businesses, events and organisations. More projects: New Fountainbridge, The Mint Building, Braemar Whisky Festival and Saray Capital.

Frequently asked questions

Can’t see your question here? Call us on 0131 202 7682 or email hello@designwork.co.uk.

It depends on the scope, from a logo refresh to a full naming and identity project. Tell us your launch date and we’ll plan the work back from it.

A site plan or address, who the scheme is aimed at, any CGIs or architect’s drawings, and your timetable for planning, construction and launch. If the project already has a working name, tell us that too, along with any names you have ruled out.

We carry out initial checks while developing names, but registering a trade mark is a legal process. We recommend asking your solicitor or a trade mark attorney to handle the formal search and application once a name is chosen.

No. Property is our specialism, but we brand companies, products and events as well.
